His Parents’ Eyes

documentary, Hungary, 90 min, 2015
in Hungarian with English subtitles

Show times:

Director: Ágota Varga

Ferike is literally his parents’ eyes, because his mum and dad are both blind – a touching family portrait spanning 11 years.

Kati and Győző are just like the rest of us, battling with everyday problems and the difficulties we all experience when we share our lives with others. But their situation is far from familiar to most people as they are both blind and decided to have a child together. Ferike is perfectly healthy.

Our cameras followed young Ferike and his family for the first two years as they faced the challenges that their unusual life presented. The Light of Our Eye appeared at ten renowned international film festivals, where it collected an array of awards and accolades.

Ferike is four years old by the time he realises that his parents cannot see, and we witness this monumental moment on film. By the time he is ten, he is already starting to think about how best to care for his unseeing mother and father. He is literally his parents’ eyes.
