At the beginning of their promising careers Don Lockwood and Cosmo Brown are making silent films in Hollywood. Lina Lamont, the star of their films, has unfounded daydreams about her budding, nonexistent love with Don. Two things disrupt their lives: choir girl Kathy Selden and the appearance of sound film. Don and Kathy's love overcomes obstacles, Lina will be duly punished, and their film "The Dueling Cavalier", turned into "The Dancing Cavalier" becomes a success. 9, in previous films successful songs complete the story.
