Based on the 1998 book by the acclaimed British author and illustrator, the beautifully hand-drawn, animated feature film tells the true story of Raymond’s parents – Ethel and Ernest - two ordinary Londoners living through a period of extraordinary events and immense social change.


Ethel & Ernest is a Lupus Films Production. The co-producers were Melusine Productions and Cloth Cat Animation. The film was made with the support of Film Fund Luxembourg, Ffilm Cymru Wales, the BFI's Film Fund, the BBC, the Little Film Company, the National Lottery through the arts council of Wales, the Welsh Covernment and Universal Pictures.
