Luciana Fina’s film starts off in a way that makes it difficult for us to know what we are watching: a montage film that blends animation and documentary, or a feature film evoking, among others, Buñuel. It’s not even possible to pin down the lead character. However, the longer one watches the picture presenting the Portuguese democratic transition of 1974, the clearer it becomes, on one hand through its topicality, and on the other hand through the commemoration, the depiction of the so-called Carnation Revolution, what it is actually about: the awakening of freedom, what it is like when the winds of liberty sweep through a country, when after 40 years of oppression the bloodless resistance puts an end to anxiety and a constant state of fear. After all, ultimately the lead character is freedom.
