Giuseppe Tornatore, genius of Cinema Paradiso and hugely popular in Hungary on account of this masterpiece, is the director, Ennio Morricone is the composer and the cinematographer is Lajos Koltai. Yet this film is memorable not only because of their presence but also that of Monica Bellucci playing the title role. She is the stunning woman who, by just strolling along the beach, brings life to a standstill. She is the reason boys mount their bikes to follow her, she embodies the elusive and intense great woman. It is as though she is more than woman, instead more like fragile perfection. Her story, which also evokes Fellini's familiar world of adolescence, can only be a melodrama, because she is too beautiful for this world.
