László I, who lived in the 11th century, was a tall, strong-armed knight-king who continued the church-building work of Saint István, passed laws, and dealt with the country's external and internal enemies. He was canonized on June 27, 1192. Kings made pilgrimages to his tomb, and frescoes about his legend were placed on the walls of many churches. His cult is still alive today, and his memory is held in especially high esteem in Szeklerland. In August 2021, young Hungarian and Szekler people went on a horseback pilgrimage in the footsteps of King Saint László. In the churches, Szekler pastors analyzed the symbolic meanings and spiritual content of the frescoes depicting the legend. The independent film about the pilgrimage conveys universal messages that transcend time.
