Carmen sueña en convertirse en hermana mayor de su pueblo en Andalucía, siendo esto algo utópico en un círculo social representado principalmente por hombres. Esta historia de “mujeres al borde de un ataque de nervios” se presenta como una novedad en el cine español. La película de Marta Díaz de Lope Díaz, de vocación feminista, se aleja del drama para reírse del machismo dominante. Logra un excelente equilibrio entre la despiadada crítica a ciertos aspectos de la Semana Santa y el absoluto respeto a su esencia cultural y religiosa.
