Ingrid & Roberto: Journey to Italy

Introduction: Attila Vörös, MWA, Klang operator, projectionist, NFI - Film Archive

The Nordic, tall, blonde beauty cannot find her place in the fishing community of the island of Stromboli. Following the war, as a Lithuanian refugee she has no other choice than to marry a local. The civilizational chasm between the archaic, male-centric, traditional moral values of the Italians and the bourgeois woman trying to change village customs is huge. The presence of elemental nature in the lives of the islanders is awe-inspiring: the tuna hunt as much as the volcanic eruption. The film ends on a question mark: is Karin, beseeching God in her mad escape, successful in her desperate attempt to flee the lava flow, or not.
