Three Swedish actresses tour the country with Aristophanes’ Lysistrata. The play about gender roles increasingly reminds them of their own everyday struggles. They question their audiences, and indeed themselves, thus: how far does the scope of art extend. Mai Zetterling, popular actress of Swedish and Hollywood movies, took the director’s chair in the 1960s in order to better share her thoughts with the world. Perhaps the most surprising thing about this vivid film depicted from a feminist perspective and given nice twists of humour is that it was made not yesterday, but getting on for 60 years ago!
