Director: David Bim / Irving Serrano and Victor Rejón
At this year’s Zsigmond Vilmos International Film Festival in Szeged, two Latin American films – a short and a feature-length documentary – won main prizes; audiences at the Latin American Film Days will be able to see them as part of a joint programme. The Cuban-Spanish film To the West, in Zapata (Al Oeste, en Zapata, 2025, 75’) – directed and photographed by Spanish David Bim living in Havana – follows the lives of a married couple in Cuba’s harshest region, who, amidst the pandemic, poor supplies and social unrest, have to do everything they can to look after their child. Directed by Mexicans Irving Serrano and Victor Rejón, Voices from the Abyss (Las voces del despeñadero, 2025, 23’, cinematographer: Eliott Reguera) is a collective portrait of the rock climbers of La Quebrada in Acapulco, Guerrero, who make their living by jumping 100 feet from a dangerous cliff into the sea.
Both films are screened in the original language, with Hungarian subtitles.
The subtitled prints were privided by the Vilmos Zsigmond International Film Festival.
