This year, the Latin American Film Days will open with an Ecuadorian film. Puka Urpi (The Red Bird), with its unique atmosphere, is rooted in the Otavalo indigenous culture. Its protagonist is five-year-old Killa, whose mother dies, forcing her to move in with her grandmother. After living in the big city, everything in the Andean forests is foreign to the little girl: the Quechua language, the landscape, and the customs. Little by little, she discovers her connection to nature and tradition. When her grandmother falls ill, Killa ventures into the forest in search of a cure. Mysterious red feathers lead her to an abandoned house—and to a mystery that will change her life.
