Gary Hook is a young, inexperienced British soldier, whose unit is sent to Belfast in 1971 to help with peacekeeping in the early years of The Troubles. During a patrol, when one of the soldiers looses his gun, Hook and another guy start to pursue the thief. As a protest escalates, their unit and the police pull out, leaving the two of them behind the enemy lines. Hook sees his fellow soldier shot dead by a young Nationalist before fleeing through streets and back alleys, finally eluding his pursuers. Unable to tell friend from foe, the raw recruit must survive the night alone and find his way to safety through the alien and deadly landscape. With Jack O'Connell's (Unbroken) brilliant performance in the role of the terrified rookie, the feature debut of experienced TV director Yann Demange is a modern “war is hell” parable disguised in the form of a gripping and suspenseful survival-thriller.
