The Forbidden Room

drama, Canada, 130 min, 2015
in English with Hungarian voice-over

Show times:

Director: Guy Maddin, Evan Johnson

Cast: Roy Dupuis, Clara Furey, Louis Negin

The renowned Canadian experimental filmmaker Guy Maddin, who likes to recreate the style of silent films, presents again a unique and inventive piece of cinema for dedicated film buffs. Originating from the director's ‘Seances’ project, a multimedia installation where he recreated fragments of famous lost films of the silent era, The Forbidden Room is a delirious collage of false extracts from old movies, with a miriad of intertwining, fantastic/surrealistic plotlines and improbable characters, including a submarine crew, a feared pack of forest bandits, a neurosurgeon, and a battalion of child soldiers, and featuring actors like Udo Kier, Mathieu Amalric, Charlotte Rampling and Maria de Medeiros.
