From the Wild West to the Wild East: The Western Genre and the Hungarians
A spectacular classic western in which our reluctant hero (Errol Flynn) purifies the town mired in sin, violence and corruption, thus establishing law and order. Dodge City is a textbook example of the classic Hollywood western, with its strong heroic narrative and dramatic action scenes. The film strengthened the popularity of the genre during the golden age of the studios and greatly enhanced the reputation of director Michael Curtiz (Mihály Kertész). Just three years later, he was directing Casablanca, considered by many the finest work in cinematic history.
