From contemporary classical music to theatre premieres, from popular music and jazz to dance and visual art, the art of our times will again be highlighted in the Hungarian capital during the seventeen days of the event series, which is realized in cooperation between Müpa Budapest, the Budapest Festival and Tourism Centre and the Hungarian Tourism Agency. Besides the work of Béla Bartók, the other focus of this year’s festival will be art and artists of the Baltic States. The affiliated events of CAFe Budapest will again include the Budapest Ritmo world music festival, the Art Market Budapest and the Margin Literary Festival and Book Fair. As earlier, the events will be hosted, among others, by Müpa Budapest, Liszt Academy, BMC, Akvárium Klub, A38 Ship, the Várkert Bazár (Castle Garden Bazaar), Vigadó, and Uránia National Film Theatre.

Play that Tuba Well
An evening with Dániel Varró, the Szeged Trombone Ensemble and the STUDIO 5
7 October, Sunday, 19:30
The concept of the concert grew out of a close cooperation between the Szeged Trombone Ensemble and STUDIO5 (Máté Bella, Bence Kutrik, Árpád Solti, Judit Varga, and András Gábor Virágh). The five composers drew inspiration from the high standards and professionalism of the ensemble, as well as by the ongoing development in the technique of the instrument that started a few years ago, and thanks to which trombone ensembles are now almost capable of replicating the sound of a symphony orchestra. Between the pieces, each of which has its world premiere now, Dániel Varró will read from his poetry.
East Gipsy Band: Bridge of Cultures
Introducing the new album
8 October, Monday, 20:00

This sensational group has toured many foreign countries, and have played in Canada and the United States, earning great success in New York’s legendary Blue Note and at the Detroit Jazz Festival.
The programme of Bridge of Cultures, their newest record in seven years, connects continents and people. The songs take listeners to an eventful, honest world, the home of unconditional love. The band will also be joined at their concert in Uránia by world-famous Hungarian virtuoso of the violin, Roby Lakatos, and internationally celebrated saxophonist phenomenon Tony Lakatos.
Ernst Reijseger – Werner Herzog: Cave of Forgotten Dreams – film concert
18 October, Thursday, 19:30
In 2010 Werner Herzog shot a 3D documentary in the Chauvet-Pont-d’Arc Cave in Southern France, whose walls bear what are held to be the oldest cave paintings in the history of humanity. The winner of prestigious international film awards, Cave of Forgotten Dreams has a compelling soundtrack, music with a special atmosphere, the work of Ernst Reijseger. The piece has since also been performed in churches, for example at the Ravenna Festival.
Says Herzog: “The music in this film is extremely important and adds a very strange beautiful different dimension to it. Ernst Reijseger is a great and genius avant-garde cello player and composer.”
